eBay A Map of Chicago’s Gangland from Authentic Sources Designed to Inculcate the Most Important Principles of Piety and Virtue in Young Persons And Graphically Portray the Evils and Sin of Large Cities. By: Bruce-Roberts Inc.Published: Chicago, 1931Dimensions: 22 x 27.8 inchesPrinting: in 5-colors (considered the first issue as opposed to a later printing of only 4 colors) PERHAPS THE GREATEST PICTORIAL MAP OF ALL-TIME. The Gangland Map of Chicago, a rare and highly coveted pictorial map, vividly captures the excitement, history, humor, and violence of the 1920s and early 1930s prohibition and organized crime era in Chicago. Despite its claimed purpose of promoting the 1933 World's Fair and instilling virtuous principles, the map humorously portrays a Wild West scenario within Chicago, highlighting infamous gangster territories, clashes with law enforcement, and scenes of murder and mayhem including the St. Valentines Day massacre in Lincoln Park and numerous Al Capone hideouts. Printed in 1931, it faced destruction by officials fearing a negative impact on Chicago's image during the 1933 World’s Fair, resulting in only a handful of surviving examples, this being only the eighth one we know of. Condition: some very light browning at old folds, otherwise one of the brightest and finest examples we have seen with full margins. Professionally linen backed.
